Start with the documented color character
Sealskin is a deep warm brown. Temperature is a useful description, but neighboring materials can change the impression. Sealskin gives a very deep warm-brown alternative to black, a distinct choice even when shadows reduce the visible difference.
Why the cream plaster and oak doors relationship matters
Oak doors and cream plaster create a useful frame for the brown, with the door edge checked under the least favorable light.
Sealskin has an LRV of 6; Sherwin-Williams Black Fox SW-7020 is 7. The difference is 1 points, with Black Fox returning more light under the reference measurement. Black Fox is a very dark color with warm greige undertones. This supplies a named color control; the LRV gap alone does not identify the warmer, greener or pinker paint.
Use Black Fox as a control
Temperature is easier to assess when Sealskin has enough light to show its hue. Check a lit panel beside the actual metal or wood, then inspect the shaded section. A very dark surface may function mainly as an outline even when its published color description has a distinct temperature.
Separate a persistent cast from a comparison effect
Choose the brown deliberately and compare the door edge in low light before painting all the trim.
Judge the temperature description against the full cream plaster and oak doors arrangement. A warm or cool label is a useful starting category; it cannot guarantee that Sealskin agrees with every material assigned the same label. The wood-floor pairing guide covers that related choice. Before ordering samples, compare room-planning features in the paint color visualizer roundup.
